Magellan RoadMate for iPhone has just been updated to version 1.3 and that means a it’s received several new features to help you better and more enjoyably navigate from point A to point B:

Location-based offers and coupons – First branded GPS App to provide relevant offers on-screen while you route to your destination. Users can re-route to the sponsoring store’s location or save promotional coupons for redemption at a later time. iOS 4.0 support – Multitasking capabilities enable navigation with turn-by-turn instructions and continuous routing to run in the background while using other applications. LifeTime real-time traffic information – Included free in the version 1.3 update, users can avoid traffic congestion by comparing current and proposed alternative routes, making well-informed decisions ahead of traffic delays.Sharing points of interest – Users can easily share destinations and POIs via email using the RoadMate app.

Sneak peek: New-style Facebook messages on iPhone

Facebook’s new-style messages service — an abstraction of email, IM, and SMS — is already working in the latest version of Facebook for iPhone… once you’ve had the feature rolled out to your account. Facebook isn’t the first to try and redefine the ways we communicate online. Google has done it twice already, once successfully with the eccentric but reserved Gmail and again unsuccessfully with the wikichat that was Wave. Facebook is a social network however — the social network — so their take is decidedly different and whether or not it catches on remains to be seen.

Setup is simple on the web. You get an invitation, you accept, then you get your @facebook email address, verify your SMS number (if you want), and login to chat (also if you want). After that you’re hit with the new interface. Once that’s setup, the next time you launch Facebook on iPhone you’re alerted that new-style messages are available (same way Places alerted you when it arrived) and you’re good to go.

We’ll be testing it out over the next week or so but in the meantime check out the screenshots after the break and if you have any questions or comments, you know where to leave them!

iXtreamer media player, access iOS content on your HDTV [video]

Well known media player manufacturer Xtreamer, has just launched a new media player, called the iXtreamer. It is aimed squarely at iOS users because not only is this a media player, it also has a dock on the top which accepts virtually all iPod / iPhone devices as well as the iPad. When a device is in the dock, it offers a full charging solution; but more importantly, provides access to your music, video and photo libraries all via your HD TV. The iXtreamer has its own on screen UI to access and play your content via a remote control from the comfort of your living room.

Experience your iPad music collection on the spectacular artistic GUI on your TV screen with amazing picture quality of HD video and crystal clear sound clarity of 7.1 CH digital audio. Use your iPhone or the included remote control to navigate through your entertainment choices using crisp, animated HD menus.

Now combine this with a media player that can also play content from a local hard drive, USB Drives or network attached storage and the package starts to look particularly attractive. File support is well covered, the iXtreamer supports, BluRay image files, MKV, AVI and a lot more besides, all in 1080P HD. YouTube access is also included along with internet radio and TV streams.

Xtreamer has big plans for the device; they are currently investigating the possibility of getting access to apps and games on your iOS device and showing them on your HDTV too. They do state that this will depend on Apple’s willingness, so I think you can rule that one out for the foreseeable future.

This does look like a very good media player with some special features to attract iOS users. The iXtreamer is currently priced at 199 Euros ($270). Shipping is available worldwide and it is available now.

Although this has much greater file support than the Apple TV, does it offer enough for the extra cost? Let us know in the comments!

Google Docs can now be edited with iPhone or iPad

Google has added some much awaited functionality to Google Docs today — you can now edit your docs on-the-go with iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad!

The feature will be rolling out over the next few days and means that:

You can work on that important memo…while on the bus or train to work.If you’re behind on a group proposal, but really want to make it to the ball game tonight, your whole team can work on it from the bleacher seats.You can take minute-by-minute notes at a concert so you’ll always remember the setlist. And your friends can jealously follow in real-time at home.…and the list goes on!

If you utilize Google Docs all you have to do is visit docs.google.com in Safari on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad and select the document you would like to edit. Once the document is open simply select the edit button and you will be switched over to their mobile editor.

iOS 4.2.1 GM seed for iPhone, iPad released to developers

Apple has just released iOS 4.2.1 GM (gold master) for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad (build 8C148) to developers.

iOS 4.2 GM was originally released a couple weeks ago leading to speculation that a general public release was coming soon. However, last Friday Apple instead released a second iOS 4.2 GM for iPad, and now with a 4.2.1 GM it’s anyone’s guess what the internal schedule looks like (or why the update servers are going up and down today!).
